I just need some ideas for my paper. I can't think of too much so here it goes. 1) Using the text, Internet AND your own opinion, why do you think that people use stereotypes to describe people who are different from them (i.e., out-groups)? 2) Can someone use a stereotype without actually being prejudiced? Explain why or why not and provide an example. In your explanation define both “stereotype” and “prejudice.” 3) Now describe an instance where you (or someone you know if you can’t think of your own example) suddenly became aware of information that contradicted a stereotype that you once had about a group of people (e.g., Arabs, women, obese people, elderly people). 4) How did this information change your attitude and/or behavior toward that group of people? 5) Using the text, Internet or your own opinion, describe at least four methods to decrease prejudice in our culture. don't worry about the text and the internet just give me your own opinion. it can be a brief idead tooThis is about stereotypes and prejudice for a paper i have to write?i think that you should include racism against ALL races, not just ones that are typically pointed out. it makes me mad when other races aren't recognized for being victims of racisms. caucasions count too! This is about stereotypes and prejudice for a paper i have to write?1. They use them coz its easier than actually taking the time to get to know what the real people are like
2. Yes (You can do the reasoning yourself...I aint doing it all for you! lol)
3. Do from your personal experience as the question suggests.
4. As above :D
5. Education, experience, integration, tolerance
Good luck I hope you do a good job of it ;)This is about stereotypes and prejudice for a paper i have to write?I came up with my own untested hypothesis once-
Stereotypes develop very often based on threat.
If there is a low threat asscoiated with a behavior, say, breakdancing on the streets, then it is going to take a large proportion of a group who breakdance to incite that stereotype.
But, if there is a huge threat, say in regard to drive-by-shootings, then it is going to take a much samller proportion of that same group to perform such horrendous acts to instill a stereotype.
Some stereotypes are positive, although not generally. I just became involved with the most wonderful man, and he is from a background associated with very family-oriented men.
I never thought of him that way when I met him, but now I'm starting to see his subculture as much more positive!HOPE THIS HELPS!!!! I THINK PEOPLE USE STEREOTYPES TO CATEGORIZE WHAT THEY FEAR OR DON'T UNDERSTAND. PREJUDICE IS THE HATRED OR DISLIKE FOR THOSE THINGS THAT ARE DIFFERENT. IT IS TOTALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO USE STEREOTYPES WITHOUT BEING PREJUDICIAL. PREJUDICE IS, AFTERALL, THE CAUSE AND EFFECT OF STEREOTYPES. IF SOMEONE HATES AFRICAN AMERICANS, IT'S PROBABLY BASED ON SOME BELIEF IN THE RACIST WHITE PERSPECTIVE. THE UNSUBSTANTIATED IMAGE OF ALL BLACK PEOPLE LIVING IN A GHETTO, BEING POOR, COMMITTING SOME TYPE OF CRIME, ETC. WE ALL SHOULD KNOW THAT NOT ALL BLACK PEOPLE ARE POOR, AND REGARDLESS OF WHAT ETHNIC BACKGROUND WE HAVE, ALL OF US ARE PART OF THE HUMAN RACE.
