How does Anger Therapy really help people? is it really beneficial or just makes them more DEPENDANT..?

is it really not about talking about your feelings but THINKING about your feelings and how YOU should and can change your attitude?

what is the point of having someone ELSE tell YOU what you should think or do?

does this not just add to more undescisive direction and lost feeling by the person?

how common too in your area of the world?

and which area of the world are you? how long been that way there?

thanks for your answers! How does Anger Therapy really help people? is it really beneficial or just makes them more DEPENDANT..?I'm sorry, but there is not a single 'straight' answer. if you know the expression, 'One Size Does Not Fit All, then you'll understand that 'the right form of therapy needs to be chosen for the individual'.

I worked in therapy Groups, both as a member and as an assistant leader for over 10 years, and I've yet to hear a Leader / Therapist tell anyone what they 'Ought to think or to feel'.

Telling someone what 'they ought to feel' (unless you are stamping on their toes or wielding a hot metal rod over their skin) is nonsense. They feel what they feel ~ and hopefully are able to explain Why they feel it too.

Anger Management is about a mixture of discovery ~ for why someone reacts as they do, and to put it at its simplest, to re-educate them to deal with moments of ''STRESS'' which would likely bring their anger to the forefront ....and how to perhaps defuse the situation and help it not reach the moment of impact / explosion.

As for hitting pillows etc. I've seen it done and, for some people this is helpful, for others (myself specifically), it felt phony right from the start ....although my situation had nothing to do with 'Anger' and it management.

On the other hand, i used to do what was liberally termed as a 'Breathing Exercises', and just through breathing (techniques), I could role on the floor bawling my eyes out in excruciating pains (from clenched facial muscles) in a very short space of time from beginning this ...'practice'.

Along with the 'talking', it helped me.
